Canadian citizenship process to get a new policy in Fall 2022

Come fall 2022, IRCC will accept online applications for Canadian citizenship from couples and families with more than one adult. The online application system is currently available only to single adult applicants.

In the next step taken in the future, the e-Application facility will be available to minors and families too. The whole exercise is expected to result in the expansion of the IRCC e-Application.

As per IRCC, with the implementation of e-Application, additional functionality for representatives in Canada will be developed. As of now, representatives are only allowed to prepare online applications. They aren’t able to submit on behalf of the client. They can converse with IRCC on the applicant’s behalf before and after the submission of the online application.

Who can apply for Canadian citizenship online?

As of now, you can apply online for Canadian citizenship if you:

• Have a valid email address
• Have eligibility to apply for Canadian citizenship
• Are applying for yourself only (not with your family)
• Are of a minimum age of 18yrs at the time of submitting your online citizenship application
• Don't include time spent outside Canada to calculate your physical presence in one of the following statuses
  • Family member of a Crown servant
  • Crown servant

If you cannot meet these criteria, you can submit your application on paper.
