The employment and unemployment rate will change in 2023. Employment rate increased in New Brunswick by (+2,400; +0.6%) and decreased in Prince Edward Island by (-1,300; -1.4%).
Canada's most prominent (CMAs), St. Catharines–Niagara and Oshawa, witnessed the most significant unemployment rate increases from April to November.
The work hours were also affected and fell to 0.7% in November, but they were up by 1.3% yearly.
The employment rate again changed in November, falling 0.1 percentage points to 61.8%. Meanwhile, the population aged 15 and older in the Labour Force Survey (LFS) grew by 78,000 (+0.2%).
The private sector employment rate rose to 38,000 (+0.3%) in November whereas the self-employed workers decreased to 25,000 (-0.9%).
In November, the employment rate among the core-aged (25 to 54 years old) men and women. The women in the age group of (25 to 54 years old) increased in full-time by 0.6% and decreased in part-time work by 2.1%.
0.2 percentage points changed the employment rate of men to 87.3%. 0.9 percentage points declined the employment rate for the core-aged men from 88.2%.
The unemployment rate from April to November increased by 2.0 percentage points (to 11.6%) among the age group of15-24. The age group of 25 to 54 went to 4.9%, and by 0.7 percentage points, people aged 55 and older went to 4.6%.
When compared, the unemployment rate in 2023 decreased by 31.3% in November 2023 and 37.4% in November 2022.
Canada gained more employment in manufacturing, which increased by 28,000, and in construction, it went up to 16,000. Meanwhile, in wholesale and retail trade, it went down to 27,000. In finance, insurance, real estate, rental, and leasing employment fell to 63,000 (-4.4%).

Meanwhile, in Quebec, there was a decrease of 0.5% in October. Unemployment rose 0.3% 2% in November, 1.3 percentage points above the record low of 3.9% reached in November 2022 and January 2023. In Ontario, the employment rate was 62.3% in April. The unemployment rate in Quebec was 6.1% in November.
