Provincial nomination is the next best option for skilled and eligible immigration candidates to migrate to Canada. The PNP draws held by Canada invite candidates with registered profiles in the Express Entry system to apply for a provincial nomination. Those who get nominations approved have a golden chance in an Express Entry driven PNP draw like the one that took place on August 18, 2021, to apply for a Canada PR.
The August 18 draw
The draw was held involving Express Entry candidates who already held a provincial nomination. Hence, by virtue of the 600 CRS points they acquired while receiving the nomination, the minimum score required in the draw was set at 751.

The minimum CRS points stipulated for candidates in the previous draw of this format was 760. Indeed, decreasing the CRS points requirement is a step Canada is taking to improve Canada immigration, bringing more immigrants to Canadian provinces.
The tie-break rule
A tie-break rule, as the name suggests, helps to end the deadlock of more than one immigration candidate having the required minimum CRS score. The tie-break rule is also applied as an administrative requirement, irrespective of a deadlock happening or not.
So, as per the rule, only those candidates who have submitted their Express Entry profiles before April 13, 2021, at 16:29:29 UTC will get the invitation to apply for Canada PR.
The trend around PNP and CEC candidates
Ever since the pandemic made travel across the Canadian border subject to restrictions, Canada immigration draws too became keen to admit more readily available to join immigration candidates. Such candidates were mostly found in the PNP and CEC streams. About 90% of these candidates are already living in Canada and are unaffected by travel restrictions like overseas candidates.
This trend ensured that the gaps in the labor market will be filled faster. Besides, the PNP and CEC candidates with Canadian experience get more weightage.
But this hasn’t taken away the significance given to skilled overseas candidates. Now that Canada is slowly reopening its borders and are in a better position to manage the pandemic crisis, more overseas candidates will be drawn into the immigration stream in the days to come.
This can be already seen happening. Right now, those whose Canada PR applications have been approved are exempt from travel restrictions. Hence, PNP applicants overseas can arrive in Canada and assume permanent residency.
So, this is the best time to hope for good news for those who have already received nominations in PNP draws. Others can start attempting to get selected and get PNP nominations which will lead to Canadian permanent residence sooner. |
