4th May 2020 saw the opening of 3 border crossing points between Italy and Canton Ticino. They have been closed to implement preventive measures to control the spread of COVID-19.
Starting now, the crossing points at Brusino, Ligornetto, and Ponte Cremenaga will be opened on all days of the week except Saturday and Sunday. The borders can be passed at the following designated times:

It was decided to open the borders to help resume border traffic and to avert traffic jams. Preventive measures taken to combat COVID-19 will be eased.
An important purpose the move serves is helping the workers from Italy to cross borders to commute and do their jobs in Switzerland.
Out of the 67,800 Italians who work in Ticino, close to 4,000 have jobs in the health sector of Ticino.
With signs of improvement in the COVID-19 infections in Switzerland, authorities are emboldened to reopen 5 crossing points at the border with France. This is in the canton of Geneva. It had remained closed due to preventive measures for COVID-19 spread.
Switzerland announced that border crossing points at Soral II, Mategnin, Veigy, Landecy, and Monniaz would be allowed to be passed. That permission will only be granted on weekdays.
The Federal Council has not yet revealed when all external borders of Switzerland will be reopened to facilitate migration overseas. But the Council has considered the progress in the lifting of present restrictions.
The Federal Council’s border controls with Germany, France, Italy, and Austria has been in force since March 16, 2020. It was undertaken to stop the spread of COVID-19 outbreak.
